Erika L. Steffen

Erika Lotte Steffen, 91, of St. Joseph Michigan went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday morning May 14. Her ever present smile, thoughtfulness and love for others will always be remembered. Arrangements have been entrusted with Starks & Menchinger. Due to the current Covid-19 precautions, a private family service and burial have been held. Memorial donations in Erika’s name may be made to Christ Lutheran Church, Stevensville and Caring Circle Hospice of Lakeland, St. Joseph. Those wishing to sign Erika’s Memory Book online may do so at starks-menchinger.com. Erika was born September 18, 1928 to Ferdinand and Rosalie Feg in Grunzig Germany, which is now a part of Poland. After the war she was reunited with her family in Herford Germany. In 1952 she came to America with her brother Ewald, and took the train to St. Joseph, where she resided for most of her life. Erika met Fritz Steffen at Leco Corporation. They married in April 1957, and remained married for 49 years until he passed away in 2006. She was a cook at Lakeshore Junior Highschool for many years. Erika enjoyed traveling, baking, cooking, caring for and loving her family with a deep passion and spending time with her grandkids to whom she was fondly known as Oma. She will be remembered for her wonderful baked goods especially Linzer Torte and Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte. She was a faithful member of Christ Lutheran Church in Stevensville. Erika will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Erika is survived by her children, Norman (Christie) Steffen of Havelock, NC; Harry (Rebecca) Steffen of St. Joseph, MI, grandchildren Andrew (Natalia), Aaron, Austin, Sean (Ashley), Brian (Brooke) Steffen; eight great grandchildren, Graham, Noah, Nathan, Annalee, Rosalie, Sean Jr., Braydon and Bryleigh Steffen; and her brother Ewald Feg of Herford Germany. She was preceded in death by her husband Fritz and her bother Siegfried.
