Violet's Obituary
Violet S. Mathews, 93, of Decatur, MI passed away on Monday-May 4, 2020 at her home. Arrangements have been entrusted to Newell Chapel of Decatur. Cremation has taken place and private family services will be held at a later date.
Violet was born March 19, 1926 in Kalamazoo, MI to Joe and Nellie (Whetsel) Slabas. She worked at Modar for several years and Huron Farms in Decatur before retiring.
Violet is survived by her husband of 71 years Lester Mathews of Decatur; daughter – Linda Bailey of Mattawan; son – Gary Mathews of Decatur; sister – Lucille Brizendine of Mattawan; daughter-in-law – Linda Mathews of Mattawan; and grandsons – Jonathan (Kylee) Bailey of Kalamazoo and Matthew (Heather) Bailey of Kalamazoo. She was preceded in death by her parents-Joe and Marie Slabas; a son-Lester D. Mathews; a sister-Mary Longabard; and three brothers-Joe, Frank and Pete Slabas.
