Damon Alonzo “Buddha” Nichols's Obituary

Damon Alonzo “Buddha” Nichols, 45, of Benton Harbor, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at home with his family by his side. Damon was born on February 16, 1975, to Selton and Ola (Green) Nichols in Benton Harbor. He graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1993. Damon then went on to receive his Associates Degree from Grand Rapids Community College, also attended Ohio University where he received a scholarship to play his beloved sport of football. He worked as a Berrien County Dispatcher for fourteen years, a job he deeply enjoyed. Damon was outgoing with a vibrant personality which made him well liked and loved by all. He was selfless with a strong work ethic. Most of all, Damon was a loving father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend who cherished time spent with his family. Damon is survived by his mother, Ola Nichols; daughters, Xiantria Nichols and Aquashia Nichols; son, Avondre Boyd; grandchildren, Janeeah Nichols, Raelynn Boyd, Daequan Tillman, Daemari Tillman, Avondre Boyd, Jr. and Daveyonna Tillman; brother, Demetrius Nichols; sisters, Amelia (Frank) Gibson, Millie Nichols, mother of his children; Marilyn Tinsley, special friends, Danyeal McGee and Forest Harmon and Godparents, Walter and Christal Felton. He was preceded in death by his father, Selton Nichols. A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, May 1, 2020 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, MI. The funeral service will be broadcasted through the outdoor speakers starting at 11 am with Minister Stanley Scott officiating. Funeral procession and burial will follow in North Shore Memory Gardens. In respect for social distancing please remain in your vehicles while waiting at the funeral home and graveside committal service.
