George's Obituary
George Flanagan, 86, of Buchanan, passed away on Friday, April 3, 2020, at home with his family by his side.
A celebration of life will be held privately with the family on Wednesday, April 8, 2020, at Swem Chapel in Buchanan. Burial will take place in Oak Ridge Cemetery. We are implementing a new program, “Hugs from Home”, that will allow people confined to their homes to share a token of love and support. White balloons will be placed in the chapel with notes from those that call in with messages or from our website, www.swemchapel.com. Memorial contributions may be made to the Berrien County Youth Fair.
George was born on March 28, 1934, to Marvin and Hazel (Fay) Flanagan at home in Buchanan. On August 26, 1961, he married Rosalie Garab in South Bend. He began his professional career with Bendix where he retired in 1993, after forty-two years of service. George was a quiet man, but when he spoke people wanted to listen, whether it was advice or life lessons. He had a strong work ethic and passed that trait through his family. George was a great craftsman and “handy man”, and built their home in 1973, where he passed. He enjoyed fishing, splitting wood and was involved in the Berrien County Youth Fair. Most of all, George cherished time spent with his family.
George is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Rosalie Flanagan; son, Tim (Renee) Flanagan; daughter-in-law, Lisa (Dave Cox) Flanagan; grandchildren, Amanda (Jim) Acker, Travis Flanagan and Joshua Flanagan; great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Acker, Gretchen Acker and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Hazel Flanagan; son, Tad Flanagan in 2010 and sisters, Almeta and Martha Pruett.
