Shirley's Obituary
Shirley Ann (Kublick) Schram, 84, of Berrien Center, MI passed away on March 12, 2020 at her daughter’s home in Berrien Springs. Arrangements entrusted to Heritage Chapel, 8747 U.S. Hwy 31, Berrien Springs, MI 49103. A private graveside service will take place at a later date. Those who wish to leave an online condolence for the family may do so at www.Heritage-Chapel.com. Memorials may be made in Shirley’s name to St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3713 Naomi Rd., Sodus, MI 49126 or Caring Circle Hospice.
Shirley was born on November 15, 1935 in Eau Claire, MI to Reinhold Rudolph Kublick and Leota Arlene (Day) Kublick Hudson. Her Uncle Ralph and Aunt Adeline Mack delivered her at home. Shirley attended Burke Elementary School, St. Mathews Lutheran School and graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1954. She was employed at Whirlpool Corporation from 1955 to 1959 and Berrien General Hospital in Berrien Center from 1967 to 1998 as an Administrative Assistant. In 1953, Shirley was first runner-up to Miss Eau Claire and Whirlpool Queen in 1959 riding floats in the Blossomtime Parade on both occasions.
On February 1, 1969, Shirley married Donald George Schram at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sodus. Together they enjoyed snowmobiling with the Berrien County Trail Blazers Snow Mobile Club, traveling around the United States for pleasure and to visit their children and spending time with their families. Shirley was John Wayne’s number one fan! Her pastimes included reading historical romance novels, playing piano, crocheting, working word puzzles of all kinds and collecting salt and pepper shakers from around the world. Shirley attended fifteen Ann Arbor Street Fairs with her sister, Nancy, who exhibited her artwork there. In 1990, she traveled by train through France, Germany and Austria with her daughter. Most of all, Shirley was a very devoted wife and unconditional, loving mother, selflessly putting the needs of her family before her own. Her kind and gentle soul will be dearly missed.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Donald of Berrien Center, MI; daughter, Cynthia Layman of Berrien Springs, MI; son, Bradley Layman of Highlands Ranch, CO; grandsons, Nicholas Layman and Keith Layman both of Highlands Ranch, CO; sister, Nancy (Paul) Kizer of Ann Arbor, MI; brother, Ronald Kublick of Eau Claire, MI; step daughter-in-law, Carol Schram of Knoxville, TN; step-granddaughter, Katie Schram of TN and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded by her parents; infant son, Keith Layman; brother, Eugene Kublick, step-son, Kevin Schram and son-in-law, Richard Sanders.
