Tina's Obituary

Tina (Maruk) Flagel, 71, of Berrien Springs, MI passed away into the loving arms and presence of the Lord Jesus Christ at 2:42 am, March 7, 2020, at Englewood Community Hospital in Englewood, FL. Tina was born January 24, 1949, in International Falls, MN to John and Arlene (Clark) Maruk. The family moved to the Berrien Springs area in 1952. She attended the Trinity Lutheran School through the eighth grade. In 1967, Tina graduated from Berrien Springs High School where she loved sports, cheerleading, dance, and several school clubs. With her bubbly personality and love for others, she easily made friends with her classmates and many others throughout the school. During most summers, Tina would work at the Sherburn Family Farms carefully picking; strawberries, raspberries, cherries and peaches. After graduating, Tina worked at Whirlpool Corporation, Schrader’s Supermarket and Schug Drug Store. Tina and Tom Flagel married February 28, 1970. (They celebrated their 50th Anniversary, this year, one week before her passing). Tom and Tina’s children Tim and Traci, plus granddaughters, Ashley, Delaney, and Abby were the love and joy of her life. She loved each of them unconditionally and beyond measure. Before Transverse Myelitis befell her in 1990, Tina realized the dream of her life by becoming a Licensed Beautician. She also opened her own beauty shop in her home, and served many clients each of whom she loved talking with and working “magic” on their hair. Tina was an inspiration to all who knew her. She exhibited God’s love as a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend to so many other people. She shared her smile, love, and compassion with anyone she met. She lived her life of physical struggle knowing God’s love and grace, and His love shined brightly through her. As family and friends, we rejoice knowing that she is now free from pain, sorrow, and confines of her wheelchair and illness. Preceding her in death were her mother Arlene (Maruk) Meade, and father John Maruk. Survivors include husband Tom Flagel, son Tim Flagel, daughter Traci (Joe) Haskins and granddaughters Ashley Lewis, Delaney Flagel and Abby Lewis. Also, surviving are sister Pat (Don) Geiger, brother Ray (Barb) Maruk and brothers-in-law Dave (Beckie) Flagel and Doug Flagel. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous, personal friends. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Berrien Center Bible Church Care Ministry. Those wishing to share a memory of Tina online may do so at www.heritage-chapel.com
