Betty Jean Newitt

Betty Jean Newitt, 92, of Dowagiac, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 9, 2020 at the Timbers of Cass County, Dowagiac. She was born December 7, 1927 in Galien to Foster and Ruth (Sprague) Bowker. Betty was a graduate of Galien High School, class salutatorian. In her younger years, Betty was a true farm girl. She married the late William Wayne Newitt and raised two sons. She worked for the Bank of Three Oaks for many years. Betty also enjoyed needlework and crocheting, both of which she was very talented. She is survived by her sons, Jim Newitt, and Steven P. (Susan) Newitt; her grandchildren, Michelle (Pete) Broecker, Hunter Rose Newitt; five step grandchildren, Christy (Ed) Garcia, Casey Pippin, Cadey Neal, Cody (Kate) Stick, and Cole Stick; two great grandsons; and six step great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, William Newitt; her brothers, Max Bowker, Don Bowker and Dale Bowker; and her parents Foster “Tom” and Ruth Bowker. A memorial service will be held at the United Methodist Church, 2289 Olive Branch Road, Galien, MI 49113, 11:00 am EST on Tuesday, March 24, 2020. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the family to assist with funeral expenses.
