Genevieve M. “Genny” Willard, 92, of Dowagiac, passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at The Timbers of Cass Co.
A Celebration of Life Graveside Service will take place on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at 11 AM at South Wayne Cemetery, Dowagiac, with Pastor Ian Edwards officiating. Friends may visit with the family thirty minutes prior to the service. Those wishing to leave an online condolence may do so at www.clarkch.com.
Genny was born on September, 29, 1927, in Hastings, MI to Paul & Modena (Greenman) O’Brien. She was raised on her family farm on Gage St., with her parents and two brothers. She graduated from Dowagiac High School in 1946. Genny worked at Heddon’s Lures, by placing the eyes on the fishing lures. On September 10, 1949, she married the love of her life, John “Jack” Willard, at First Christian Church in Dowagiac. The two were happily married for nearly 60 years before his passing in 2009. For many years, Genny and Jack enjoyed traveling, shopping in Shipshewana & flea markets, and playing cards with friends; specifically, Canasta. Genny was also a proud member of First Christian Church, where she was involved with their Christian Woman’s Fellowship group. She enjoyed sewing and was known for her delicious sugar cookies. Once Genny moved into The Timbers of Cass Co. she became very involved with their Activity Department.
Genny is survived by her daughter, Virginia True; son, George Willard; grandchildren, Monica (Derrick) Fisher & Brandon True; and great-grandchildren, Rileigh, Braeden, Megan & Kyler.
Genny was preceded in death by her parents, Paul & Moedena; husband, Jack; and brothers, Bly & Frances “Buck” O’Brien.
