Joan's Obituary
Joan Clift, 90, passed away in the early morning of Tuesday, December 17th, 2019, at Bronson Commons in Mattawan, Michigan.
Joan was born in Mishawaka, Indiana, on February 25th, 1929. She is survived by her three sons, Dr. Delos and Beth Clift of Winter Park, Florida, Paul and Nancy Clift of Mattawan, Michigan and David Clift of Dowagiac, Michigan. Joan has 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Delos (Bob) Clift and her two sisters, Virginia Marvel, and Betty Atkins.
Joan had a stroke at the young age of 33, which caused her to have limited use of the right side of her body. The stroke did not deter Joan from pursuing her creative talents of cooking delicious food from scratch, sewing, gardening, and painting beautiful nature scenes. She loved her grandchildren and she loved spending time with them. Joan also loved to laugh and also found humor in the simple things of life. In her later years, she was confined to living in a nursing home, but rarely complained. Her children and grandchildren were still able to share many fond memories with her, such as attending the Bronson Commons Dances or just spending quality time with her at lunch and dinner. Joan brought so much joy to her sons and grandchildren and will be missed greatly. Joan led an exemplary life despite all the limitations that she had to deal with.
There will be a memorial service in the spring of 2020, where her family and friends will honor her memory by spreading her ashes on her beloved farm. May the perpetual light of the mercy of God shine on the wonderful soul of Joan Clift and may she find peaceful solace in her new home of Heaven. Memorial contributions in Joan’s name may be made to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan. Those wishing to leave a condolence online may do so at www.clarkch.com.
