Donald Morss

Donald Morss, 74, of Dowagiac, passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2019, at Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo. Donald was born January 13, 1945 in Hinsdale, Illinois, to James and Ruth (Christensen) Morss. Donald moved with his parents to Berrien Springs in 1957. Donald graduated from Andrews Academy in 1963. In 1964, he moved to California, where he lived for about one year, but returned to Michigan in 1966 to continue his studies in college toward his bachelor’s degree in physical education. Donald was a substitute teacher prior to being drafted by the Army in June 1969, where he was sent to Vietnam where he was trained to be a medic. Donald was discharged in January 1971, and he returned to Andrews University to finish his BA, which he received in 1972. Donald worked as a die-cast operator about 30 years. In 1989, Donald married his present wife, Evangeline, and started to manage an adult foster care facility in 1994. In 1999, Donald and his wife bought their own assisted living home in Dowagiac. In 2002, they opened another assisted living homes, which they continue to operate both homes. Donald retired at age of 62, but continues to help take residents to doctor appointments and helping around the homes. Donald has been married to Evangeline for thirty years. Donald was married to his first wife, Susan for ten years and had two sons, Douglas and Daniel Morss. He is also survived by his former wife, Jane. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, November 3, 2019, at 11:00 A.M. at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, with burial to follow at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Seventh Day Adventist Church.
