June Margaret Johnson

June Margaret Johnson passed away October 10, 2019 at the age of 84. She was born in Chicago, IL on June 11, 1935 to Emil and Anna (nee Baker) Johnson. June was a graduate of Bowen High School, class of 1954. Upon graduating, she attended the Chicago Teacher’s College and became an elementary teacher. While she taught, she went back to Chicago State University and received a Master’s Degree in Special Education. She then taught children with learning disabilities until she retired in 1994. After retiring, she moved to Decatur where she had spent her summer vacations. June was an avid reader. She enjoyed working in her garden; that was her pride and joy. She attended the First United Methodist Church in Dowagiac. She is lovingly remembered by her friends, Phyllis and Jane Arndt, her nieces, Susan (the late Joseph) Novak, Ginger (James) Miller, and numerous other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, James and Edward; and her sisters, Laura Rodriguez, Henrietta Oberman, and Judy Cortez. Cremation has taken place with a private memorial service. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society.
