Carl's Obituary

Carl L. Biek, 87, of Dowagiac, passed away on Friday, July 5, 2019, at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 9, 2019, at 11AM at Holy Maternity of Mary Catholic Church, 210 N. Front St., Dowagiac, with Father John Tuyen Tran officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Monday, July 8, 2019, from 5pm until 7pm, at Clark Chapel, 405 Center St., Dowagiac. A Rosary will be recited at 7pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Maternity of Mary Steeple Fund, V.F.W. Post # 1855 or Heartland Hospice. Carl was born on June 15, 1932, to Elmer & Naomi (Dewey) Biek in Dowagiac. He graduated from Dowagiac High School in 1950 and continued his education at Western Michigan University where he was a member of Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity. He proudly served his country in the Army. After he was honorably discharged, he worked as a Supervisor for the Department of Social Services. Carl was a member of Holy Maternity of Mary Catholic Church where he sang in the choir. He also was of member of V.F.W. Post #1855 for over 50 years, Boy Scout troop leader and vigil member of the Order of Arrow for more than 45 years. Carl was a life member of the National Model Railroad Association, Central Electric Railroad Association, La Porte County Historical Steam Society, Cass County Audubon Society and the Founder of Cass County Rail. Carol served on the Dowagiac Fine Arts Festival Teas Committee. Carl had a passion for trains, especially the New York Central and was an avid Notre Dame football fan. He also enjoyed listening to classical music & opera. Carl is survived by his siblings, Robert Biek of Westland Lavonia, MI, June (Ronald) Wenzel of Houston, TX, Leland Biek of St. Joseph and Ann Biek of Dowagiac; many nieces & nephews; great-nieces & nephews; and cousins. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer & Naomi Biek; brother Donald Biek; and sister-in-laws Tahnh Biek & Diane Biek.
