Pedro's Obituary

Pedro D. Cordero, 85, of Berrien Springs, MI passed away Friday, May 24, 2019 at the Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville, Michigan. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at 12:30 PM at the Michiana Fil-Am Seventh Day Adventist Church, 8454 Kephart Ln, Berrien Springs, MI with Pastor Abel Cordero officiating. Burial to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Berrien Springs. Friends and family may visit Monday, May 27, 2019 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Heritage Chapel, 8747 US 31, Berrien Springs. A Homily will be recited at 5:30 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Michiana Fil-Am SDA Church for the benefit of Bauan Adventist Elementary School. Pedro was born on November 26, 1933 in Batangas, Philippines to Conrado & Filomena Durante Cordero. Pedro followed his father’s footsteps as a pioneer and a lay evangelist for the Seventh-Day Adventist faith in their region. He worked as a blacksmith for fifty years before retiring. On March 29, 1961 he wed Ruth Marquez in San Pablo Laguna, Philippines. They moved to the United States in 2000 to join their daughter, Evangeline. Pedro’s life was his church and his family. He loved music, always had a song in his heart and played the harmonica. He was a dynamic song leader in many church events and was always the life of the party. In his spare time, he enjoyed sports, especially basketball and boxing. Pedro will be remembered for being a generous and kind soul who always thought about others first. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Ruth; children Evangeline and her husband, Manuel Curameng of Oxford, CT, Jonathan and his wife, LorCel Cordero of Friendswood, TX and Charity and her husband, Sunny Tumangday of Niles, MI; grandchildren, Jemuel Curameng, Joshua Curameng, Amanda Ceciliene Cordero, Caitlin Jo Cordero, Nick Tumangday and Peter Alex Tumangday; brother Anastacio Cordero of Batangas, Philippines; sister Gloria Amurao of San Diego, CA and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Juan Cordero, Crescencia Abaday and Susana Porciuncula.
