Norma's Obituary
Norma L. Freehling, 84, of New Troy, passed away peacefully, with her family by her side on Wednesday, April 24, 2019, at Spectrum Health Lakeland, St. Joseph.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, April 29, 2019, at Trinity Evangelical Church of Glendora, 1733 W. Glendora Rd., Buchanan, with Rev. Jonathan Liebich officiating. Burial will follow at Glendora Cemetery, Buchanan. Visitation will be held from 2-6 PM on Sunday, April 28, 219, at Swem Chapel, 301 W. Front St., Buchanan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church. Those wishing to send a condolence online may do so at www.swemchapel.com
Norma was born on December 22, 1934, to Julius and Lydia (Heritz) Schmaltz in Baroda. She graduated from New Troy High School in 1953. On January 24, 1953, she married Raymond Freehling in Baroda. Norma worked at F & M Bank in Benton Harbor for twenty years. She then worked at Kriegers Wholesale Nursery in Bridgman for over ten years. Norma was a lifetime faithful member of Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church of Glendora and was confirmed in 1949. She was a member of the Alter Guild & Ladies League. Norma enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and being a caregiver. Most of all, she cherished her family.
Norma is survived her children, Susan (Perry) Weikel, Debbie Mazurik and Norman Freehling; grandchildren, Edward (Roxanne) Roberts III, Michael (Cara) Roberts, Kenny (AJ) Freehling, Nicole Schwark, John (Rita) Mazurik, Corrinne (Shawn Taylor) Freehling and Cameron Mazurik; great-grandchildren, Morgan Roberts, Conner Roberts, Brayden Schwark, Will Burks and Riley Gamos; great-great-granddaughter, Sawyer Conway; sisters, Laverne (Lamar) Trapp and Judy (Lyle) Lebsack: sisters-in-law, Sandy (Bob) Dixon, Eleanor (Burl) Longfellow and Pauline Longfellow. She was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Lydia Schmaltz; husband, Raymond Freehling; son, Ken Freehling and brother, Alan Schmaltz.
