Richard's Obituary

Richard T. DeFreez, 90, of Galien, MI, passed away at Buchanan Meadows on Weds., April 17, 2019. Arrangements have been entrusted to Swem Chapel – 301 W. Front St., Buchanan, MI. Richard was born on April 16, 1929, in Racine, WI to the late Richard and Elizabeth (Able) DeFreez. Richard served our country during the Korean War while in the U.S. Army – 15th Medical Battalion 1st Calvary Division. On Nov. 10, 1961, he married Alene Klute; she preceded him in death on Dec. 17, 1987. Richard worked at National Standard in Niles, MI and retired in 1988 after 32 years of service. Richard is survived by a son – Charles (Susan) DeFreez and a daughter – Sandra Dau, both of Galien, MI; grandchildren – Katherine (Jermaine) Woods, Ronald DeFreez, Richard DeFreez, Matthew Critzer, Michael Critzer and Mark Critzer; great grandchildren – Jaxson and Jaleah Woods; and a twin brother – Robert DeFreez of Galien, MI. He is also preceded in death by granddaughter – Kristina, brothers – Charles and Donald, and sisters – Katherine and Lina. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Weds. April 24, 11:00am, at Swem Chapel, Buchanan with Pastor David Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow at Galien Cemetery, Galien with military honors rendered by the Buchanan American Legion Post 51 and the United States Army.
