Edward Kliss, 78, of Union Pier, MI – passed away on Monday, April 8, 2019. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sommerfeld Chapel – 15 N. Barton St., New Buffalo, MI.
Edward was born on August 27, 1940 in Michigan City, IN to the late Harold and Florence (Lubke) Kliss. He was employed at Clark Equipment in Buchanan for many years, and also at Stanley Knight in New Troy until his retirement in 2002. Edward was a member and former president of the New Buffalo Rod & Gun Club; a life time member of the NRA; a member of the Michigan City Moose Lodge; owned and operated Ed’s Gun Shop for over 40 years; was an award winning trap sharpshooter; was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish; was a skilled formica worker and could fix anything; and a special friend and neighbor. He will be greatly missed.
Edward is survived by his loving companion of 20 years – Barbara Hogan; his children – Robin Kliss of Berrien Springs, MI and Dale Kliss of Keystone Heights, FL; grandson – Shane Smith of New Buffalo, MI; a sister – Debra L. Smith of New Buffalo, MI; and various other extended family. He is preceded in death by a son – Allen Kliss and a brother – Ronald Kliss.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sat., April 13, 1:00pm, at Sommerfeld Chapel in New Buffalo, with Rev. Rob Nash officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in New Buffalo. Visitation is on Friday, April 12 from 5:00-8:00pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Buffalo Rod & Gun Club.
