Alice Mae Shew

Alice Mae Shew, 87, of Decatur, passed away on April 7, 2019, at White Oaks Retirement Residence in Lawton, MI. Arrangements have been entrusted to Newell Chapel – 83313 M51, Decatur, MI. Alice was born May 2, 1931 in Dowagiac, MI to the late Andrew and Mildred (Finch) Zwalua. On June 24, 1950 in Decatur she married James Fred Shew; he preceded her in death on March 7, 1991. Alice was a member of the First Reformed Church in Decatur. She was a wonderful cook and baker, and shared this with family, friends and neighbors, especially around Christmas. She was loved and will be greatly missed. Alice is survived by sons – John (Joy) Shew of Avon, IN and Michael (Brenda) Shew of Constantine, MI and daughter – Susan Shew of Decatur, MI; seven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren; a sister – Betty (Paul) Siskaninetz of Lawton, MI; and several nieces and nephews. She is also preceded by a son – Frank, and a daughter – Cynthia Pierce. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, April 12, 12pm, at Newell Chapel in Decatur with Pastor James Abshagen officiating. Burial will follow at Harrison Cemetery in Decatur. Visitation precedes the service from 11:00am-12:00pm at the funeral home.
