Anne's Obituary

Anne F. Creagan, 94, of Decatur, passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Bronson Commons, Mattawan. Arrangements have been entrusted to Newell Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, April 11, 2019, at 11 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 500 W. St. Marys St., Decatur, officiated by Bishop Paul Bradley. Burial will follow the service at Lakeside Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 9 AM until 10:30 AM. The Rosary will be recited at 10:30 AM until the time of the service at the church. Anne was born on May 8, 1924, in Whiting, IN, to Thomas & Katherine (Juriga) Cerven. She grew up on her family’s farm, where she took great pride in taking care of the farm and milking the cows. On September 17, 1949, Anne married the love of her life, Leo Patrick Creagan, at Holy Family Catholic Church. The two were happily married for 50 years before his passing in 1999. Throughout her life, Anne worked as a Custodian for various businesses in Decatur, including First State Bank and The Post Office. She also helped her nine children with their paper routes when they were growing up. Anne was an avid fan of Notre Dame Football and the Detroit Tigers. She loved watching those teams play and cheering them on. She also enjoyed playing BINGO, shopping, and working on the family yard. Anne loved sharing her knowledge with kids; teaching her children how to maintain a beautiful yard and garden gave her great joy. Anne was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church Alter Society and a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 6248 in Decatur. Anne is survived by her daughters, Kathleen (Duane) Athey, Sharon (Charles) DeLoach and Karen Creagan, all of Decatur; sons, Thomas (Deborah) Creagan, James Creagan, John Creagan, Dr. Patrick (Lisa) Creagan, all of Decatur, Father Robert Creagan of St. Joseph, and Timothy (Martha) Creagan of St. Augustine, FL; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters, Dolores Marvin of Watervliet and Sandra (David) Docsa of Kalamazoo; sister-in-law, Eileen Adams of Petoskey, MI; brother-in-law, Robert Arrighi of Summerville, FL; and many nieces and nephews. Anne was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Katherine; husband, Leo; grandchildren, Steven Athey, Rich Newcomb, Nicole Randall, and Steven Brewer; great-grandchild, Spencer Horvath; siblings, Stephen Cerven, Stephanie Cerven, Clara Dragan, John Cerven and Gloria Cerven-Arrighi; and daughter-in-law, Kathleen Creagan.
