Veronica Helen Schroder

Veronica Helen Schroder, of New Buffalo, MI passed away in Grand Rapids on April 3, 2019 after a very short illness – one day after her 93rd birthday. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sommerfeld Chapel – 15 N. Barton St., New Buffalo, MI. Veronica Bigda was born in Chicago, but lived for 80 years in New Buffalo, graduating high school there in 1943. In 1946, in New Buffalo, she married Charles Schroder. He preceded her in death in 1969, almost exactly 50 years ago. Veronica worked at Michigan Bell Telephone in New Buffalo, before the advent of dial telephones, as a switchboard operator. She worked at the Transportation Department’s Michigan Welcome Center, for many years thereafter, and retired in 1997. She served on the New Buffalo School Board for two terms. Veronica is survived by her two sons – Allan (Candace) and Barry; grandchildren – Charles, Josh (Erin), Scott (Chrissy), and Erika (Mike); step-grandchildren – Rory (Jen) and Gavin; and great grandchildren – Zane, Ella, Emmet, Lauren, James and Jude. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Sat., April 6, 11:00am, at St. Mary of the Lake Church in New Buffalo, with Father John Ambrose and Father Don Suberlak officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, New Buffalo. Visitation is on Friday, April 5, from 5:00-8:00pm, at Sommerfeld Chapel in New Buffalo, with a prayer service at 7:45pm.
