Cecilia Hart

Cecilia Hart, 95, of Dowagiac, passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2019 at her home. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will take place at a later date. Cecilia was born on December 13, 1923, in Belleville, MI, to John & Mary (Jasienski) Litwin. On March 16, 1944, she enlisted in the United States Coast Guard. For two years, Cecilia proudly served our country before being honorably discharged March 23, 1946. Shortly after she returned home, Cecilia married William Hart on June 29, 1946, in New Boston, MI. Together the two of them raised four children. Cecilia loved to volunteer her time to help others. While her children were attending elementary school, she would often help out as a classroom mom, lunch aide, or a Den Mother while her sons were in Cub Scouts. Cecilia also found great joy in helping deliver food for Meals on Wheels. She would often times take her grandchildren with her so they too could learn from her kindness and compassion. Cecilia enjoyed gardening, sewing, polka dancing and bowling. Cecilia is survived by her children, William (Marcia) Hart of Dowagiac, Paul (Pauline) Hart of Chesapeake, VA, Jane Egger of Dowagiac and June (Keith) Taggart of Dowagiac; grandchildren, Randi Jo (Carl) Anderson, Michael (Alicia) Hart, John Hart, Sarah Hart and Corey Taggart; great-grandchildren, Brenden Hart, Austin Hart, Lily Anderson and Garrett Anderson; and sister, Josephine Smith. Cecilia was preceded in death by her parents, John & Mary; husband, William; and siblings, Leon, Raymond, Lewis and Joseph Litwin, Frances Hutchison, and Julia Lienard.
