Robert Nystrom

Robert L. Nystrom, 89, formerly of New Buffalo, MI now of Hamilton Communities Assisted Living in New Carlisle, IN, died on Monday, March 09, 2009. Arrangements have been entrusted with Sommerfeld-Smith Family Funeral Home of New Buffalo. Bob was born July 13, 1919 in Balsam Lake, WI to Karl and Estelle (Morey) Nystrom. He was raised in Cumberland, WI – where he had been a dairy farmer. He served his country while in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII. On December 21, 1942 in Alamogordo, New Mexico he married Doris Neumann. Bob graduated from Eau Claire Teachers College in Eau Claire, WI. He moved to Niles, MI in 1952 and worked at Bendix. In 1958 he came to New Buffalo and taught in the New Buffalo Area School System until his retirement. Bob was the former co-owner of Impatient Two Bait and Tackle Shop in New Buffalo. His memberships included the New Buffalo Lions Club and the Masonic Lodge of Three Oaks, MI. Bob is survived by three daughters, Roberta Nale of Porter, IN, Bonnie Mutton of Kirkland, WA, and Nikki Nystrom of South Bend, IN; five grandchildren, Jamie Copollo of Chesterton, IN, Lisa (Russell) Kenyon of Washington State, Diana (Joshua) Grant of Louisiana, Paul (Darlene) Nale of Michigan City, IN, and Robert Mutton of Kirkland, WA; 12 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents-Karl and Estelle, his wife-Doris, three sisters and two brothers. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, March 11 at 11:00a.m. at the Sommerfeld-Smith Family Funeral Home of New Buffalo, with Rev. Brad Bartlemay officiating. Visiting hours are on Tuesday, March 10 from 4:00 to 7:00p.m. at the funeral Home. Bob will be cremated and his ashes will be buried at Pine Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of New Buffalo. Robert L.
