Alyce's Obituary

Alyce F. Milius, 93, of Union Pier, Michigan, passed away, Thursday, May 21, 2009 at her home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday (EST) at St. Mary of The Lake Catholic Church, 718 W. Buffalo St., New Buffalo, MI with Fr. James Morris officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in New Buffalo. Friends may call from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. Monday, with the Rosary recited at 7:30 P.M., at Sommerfeld-Smith Family Funeral Home, 15 N. Barton St., New Buffalo. Mrs. Milius was born January 13, 1916 in Akron, Ohio to Joseph & Margaret (Stelmok) Chevis. She graduated from Custer High School in Custer, MI in 1934. On June 1, 1935 she married Samual Milius in Scottville. They later moved to Hammond, IN where together the owned and operated the Four Aces and the Whistle Stop Taverns. Following the sale of the taverns, they moved to Union Pier and became members of St. Mary of The Lake. Alyce was very active with various activities and committees within the Church. She was past president and formerly served as treasurer of the Rosary Society of St. Mary's. In her spare time, she enjoyed baking, cooking, reading, crossword puzzles, and especially eating chocolate.Alyce is survived by her son Samual (Janice Mynsberge) Milius of New Buffalo; her daughter Doryne (Joseph) Majoch of Hammond, IN; two grandsons-Bryan (Sherry) Majoch of Hammond, Arend Milius of New Buffalo; her brother Pete (Nettie) Chevis of Portland, OR; and a special friend Dee Milius of Union Pier.
