Theodore ‘Ted' H. Turley, 92, of New Buffalo, died Saturday, July 25, 2009, in Michigan City at St. Anthony Memorial Health Center. Arrangements have been entrusted with Sommerfeld-Smith Family Funeral Home of New Buffalo, MI. Ted was born October 24, 1916 in Chicago, IL to Constantine and Kathryn (Filipowski) Turley. He came to New Buffalo as a little boy and has lived here 87 years. He graduated from New Buffalo High School and attended Michigan State University. On May 17, 1947 at St. Mary's Church in Otis, IN he married Irene Gorski – they have been married over 62 years. Together they owned and operated Turley's Service Station for over 45 years. Ted retired in 1998. He was a member of St. Mary of the Lake Church, New Buffalo; a 40 year member of the St. Joseph Young Men's Society of Michigan City; he was an avid deer hunter; and a die-hard fan of the Chicago Cubs. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Ted is survived by his loving wife Irene; his children, Leonard (Paula) Turley of LaPorte, IN and Monica Garrison of Downers Grove, IL; a grandson, Joshua Lorig; two step-grandchildren, Joyce Duncan and Michelle Fryar; a brother, Henry Turley of Three Oaks, MI; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister-Helen Melgin, and three brothers-Constantine, Mitchel and Maximillian. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 11:00am, at St. Mary of the Lake Church, New Buffalo, with Father James Morris officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, New Buffalo. Visitation is on Monday from 4:00-8:00pm, with a Rosary recited at 7:30pm.
