John's Obituary

John Michael Adrian, 79, of New Buffalo, MI, died at his home with his loving family at his side, on Wednesday, December 9, 2009. Arrangements have been entrusted with Sommerfeld Family Funeral Home of New Buffalo.John was born March 15, 1930 in Michigan City, IN to Peter and Marion (Zoch) Adrian. He served his country while in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. On October 9, 1954 at St. Mary of the Lake Church he married Esther Wesolowski. John was a brick mason having worked for Stone and Elliott from 1963 until his retirement in 1995. He was an active member of the Bricklayers Union for 53 years. John was a member of the New Buffalo American Legion Post #169, and also a member of St. Mary of the Lake Church of New Buffalo. He loved to travel; go to air shows; and watch Indy, motorcycle and stock car racing. John was a handyman and enjoyed tinkering around and coming up with creative projects. But most of all he loved his family and family activities. John is survived by his wife of over 55 years-Esther; his children, Steven (Linda) Adrian of Bourbonnais, IL, Robert (Lisa) Adrian of Fremont, MI, Theresa (Ken) Mullins of Kentwood, MI, and Ann Maxfield of Wyoming, MI; grandchildren, Douglas (Belinda) Mullins, Michelle Adrian, Katherine (Aaron) Mater, Matthew Adrian and Lynsey Maxfield; great grandchildren, Jason, Haley, Taylor, Izzabella and Madelyn; sister-in-laws, Minnie Adrian, Bernice Adrian and Barbara Adrian; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers-Leonard, Alfred, Raymond and Edward, and sisters-Eleanor Gull, Rita Piotroski, Margie Beckman and Helen Adrian.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Dec. 12, 11:00am, at St. Mary of the Lake Church with Father Kevin Covert officiating. John will be cremated and burial will be at a later date at Pine Grove Cemetery. Visitation is on Friday, Dec. 11, from 3:00-8:00pm, at the Sommerfeld Family Funeral Home in New Buffalo, MI.
