Ruth's Obituary

Ruth Jean Haynes, after almost 98 years, went home to her Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 2, 2010 at Woodland Terrace in Bridgman, MI. Arrangements have been entrusted with Sommerfeld Chapel of New Buffalo, MI.Ruth was born in Flint, MI on May 24, 1912 to Erwin and Jean (Storie) Gere. She moved to Detroit after graduation from high school to work at Burroughs Corporation where she met Chester H. Haynes. They were married on September 4, 1937, and were married 42 years. Ruth's family, son-James E. Haynes (Nancy) who preceded her in death in 2006, and daughter-Hollis Jean Haynes Oselka (Ronald) were her pride and joy and she loved being a part of their lives. She was a loving grandmother to Scott Haynes, Christine Haynes, Paul Keller (Tina), James Oselka (Karen), Mark Oselka (Melissa), Matthew Oselka and Jean Oselka Haskins (John); and great grandmother to Jonathan Keller, Andrew Keller, Emily Keller, Taylor Oselka, Jared Oselka, Kyra Oselka, Kennedy Oselka, Cole Haskins, Samuel Haskins and Nicholas Haskins. Also surviving is her only niece, Molly Kovach of Palmyra, MI and many great nieces and nephews.Ruth was ‘Mother' or ‘Grandma Ruth' to many people and took that role very seriously. Barbara Truman and Judy Taschler, two of her ‘adopted daughters' were loved and cherished by her and they were a great comfort and help in her last years. She also loved the staff at Woodland Terrace Assisted Living where she resided the past 3 ½ years, who took such good care of her and she was ‘Grandma' to all. Her goal in life was to pray that each person she met would love Jesus as much as she did.Ruth was a member of LaPorte Christian Womens Club for many years and faithfully welcomed all to the meetings with a smile. She also was a longtime member of New Buffalo Service League. Ruth's strong, unwavering faith kept her alert and her wit kept visitors smiling. She will be greatly missed by all.A Celebration of Life Service will be held Wednesday evening at 7:00pm at Sommerfeld Chapel of New Buffalo with Rev. Brad Bartelmay officiating. Visitation will precede the service from 4:00-7:00pm at the funeral home. The family will have a private committal service at Woodlawn Cemetery in Detroit, MI. Memorial contributions may be made to the Campus Crusade for Christ or to the First United Methodist Church in New Buffalo.
