Stephanie R. Slater, 79, of New Buffalo, died on Friday May 21, 2010 at Jordan's Nursing Home in Bridgman, MI. Arrangements have been entrusted with Sommerfeld Chapel of New Buffalo, MI.Stephanie was born on Nov. 28, 1930 in Chicago, IL to John and Sophia (Preszwoska) Janicki. She graduated from New Buffalo High School in 1949. On Aug. 26, 1950, Stephanie married Ralph Raymond Slater; he preceded her in death on May 19, 2004. She was a devoted wife and mother, always had a smile on her face, and always put others first – helping where and when she could. Stephanie was a member of the New Buffalo American Legion Post #169 Auxiliary as well as the VFW Auxiliary. She will be missed by her family and many friends.Stephanie is survived by her children, Diane Covert of New Buffalo, Nancy Beck of Sawyer, Brenda (Rick) Edwards of New Buffalo, and Ralph (Jamie) Slater, Jr. of New Buffalo; six grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; two son-in-laws, Chuck Covert and David Beck; and her beloved dachshund-Molly. She is preceded in death by her parents-John and Sophia, her husband-Ralph, two brothers-Chester and Walter, and a sister-Cecilia Douvas-Bower.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 25, 11:00am, at St. Mary of the Lake Church, New Buffalo, with Father Craig Lusk officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, New Buffalo. Visitation is on Monday, from 4:00-8:00pm at Sommerfeld Chapel, 15 North Barton St., New Buffalo, MI.
