David's Obituary

David Olson, New Buffalo, MI, passed away on March 16, 2010 at the University of Chicago hospital after battling liver cancer. Born in Chicago in 1951 to Walter and Florence Olson, David was a talented fine artist whose life centered on artistic expression. He received both Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Fine Arts from The Art Institute of Chicago, where he also worked as a curator and restorer of 17th and 18th century art, including works of Rembrandt.David is survived by his long-time partner and best friend Deborah DeVos; his sister Carol and nephew Michael. He was a talented, big-hearted soft-spoken and gentle man who lived an exceptional, but all too short life. His thousands of works spanned small and large canvasses, oil and watercolor, pencil and charcoal, iron and steel, film and text. He loved beach walks and sunsets and the dunes where one of his sculptures rests.A private service will be held at a later date. For those wishing to remember David, contributions to the Michiana Humane Society (219-872-4499) would be welcome, as David was a lifelong lover and rescuer of animals. And please be an organ donor. Arrangements have been entrusted with Sommerfeld Chapel of New Buffalo. Friends may leave a message of condolence at www.sommerfeldchapel.com
