Dorothy McCaslin, 96, formerly of Hammond, IN, now of New Buffalo, MI, died on Saturday, July 17, 2010, at St. Anthony Inpatient Hospice of Crown Point, IN. Arrangements have been entrusted with Sommerfeld Chapel of New Buffalo, MI.Dorothy was born December 12, 1913 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, to Frederick and Ruth (Clifford) Pickett. On May 28, 1955 in St. John, IN she married Matthew Howard McCaslin. They moved to New Buffalo in the 1960's. Dorothy attended the United Methodist Church of New Buffalo, where she was also active in the choir. She served on the New Buffalo Planning Commission; and was also a member of the New Buffalo Women's Service League.Dorothy is survived by her brother-Melville (Jean) Pickett of Crown Point, IN; many nephews & nieces, and grand nephews & grand nieces; and her special friends Mickey and Rosie of New Buffalo. She is preceded in death by her parents-Frederick and Ruth, her husband-Matthew, a brother-Frederick, and a sister-Alma. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, July 19, 7:00pm, at Sommerfeld Chapel of New Buffalo, with Rev. George Lawton officiating. Visitation will precede the service from 3:00-7:00pm at the funeral home on Monday. Burial will take place at Mt. Horeb Cemetery in Sturgeon, MO, at a later date.
