Chester ‘Chet' Hatfield, 74, of Michigan City, IN, died on Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010 at the Arbors of Michigan City, IN. Arrangements have been entrusted with Sommerfeld Chapel of New Buffalo, MI.Chet was born Feb. 9, 1936 in Pike County, KY to Burl and Beulah (Lafferty) Hatfield. On Oct. 14, 1984 in New Buffalo he married Rosa Lee Lampley. Chet was an electrician with Local #697 IBEW of Gary, IN. He loved fishing, hiking, camping – anything to do with the outdoors and western movies. Chet was a woodworker and spent much time in his garage doing carpentry work. But most of all he enjoyed and loved his family. Chet is survived by his wife Rose; his children, Gwen (Doug) Burk of LaPorte, IN, Carol (Todd) Soller of Michigan City, IN, Teri (Brent) Sommers of Union Mills, IN, Kenneth (Pam) Hatfield of New Buffalo, Don (Bobbi) Hatfield of New Buffalo, Jason Hatfield of Michigan City, and Shane Hatfield of South Bend; step-sons, Marvin Miles of New Buffalo and Stanley (Linda) Miles of South Bend; 14 grandchildren; 8 step-grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 9 step-great grandchildren; sisters, Kathleen (William) Hatfield of Walkerton, IN, Joyce Yates of Novi, MI, Sharon (Louis) Smith of New Buffalo; brothers, Winifred (Brenda) Hatfield of Union Pier, John (Pat) Hatfield of Morrison, TN, Curtis (Bonnie) Hatfield of Michigan City, Thomas Hatfield of Mexico, Timothy Hatfield of Union Pier; and a sister-in-law Sharon Hatfield of New Buffalo. He is preceded in death by his parents-Burl and Beulah, a son-Chester, and a brother-Robert.A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, Sept. 13, 12 noon (EST) at the Sommerfeld Chapel of New Buffalo, with Rev. Wayne Rosson and Rev. Ellis Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery of New Buffalo. Visitation is on Sunday, Sept. 12, from 2:00-5:00pm(EST) at the funeral home.
