Frances Wanda, 90, of Grand Beach, MI, died on Monday, October 18, 2010 in Glenview, IL. Arrangements have been entrusted with Sommerfeld Chapel of New Buffalo, MI.Frances was born on May 5, 1920 in Wilkes Barre, PA to Longen and Salome (Symek) Woronowicz. On Sept. 1, 1942 in Aberdeen, MD she married Francis Edward Wanda. He preceded her in death on Nov. 28, 2007. Frances graduated from Lake Erie College in Painesville, OH in 1942 with a BA in Political Science. From 1942-1945, she was employed by the U.S. Government Department of War in Washington, DC. While living in North Muskegon, MI from 1954-1964, she was on the boards of civic and professional organizations. In 1966 she joined the U.S. Government Department of Treasury Internal Revenue Service. She retired in 1983. Frances was an accomplished seamstress; enjoyed painting with watercolors; attending Chicago Lyric opera's; and golfing. She extremely enjoyed the written word and has collected many interesting dictionaries over the years. She is survived by her daughter Kandis Ruffner of Streamwood, IL and her grandson Bradley Ruffner of Chicago, IL. Frances is preceded in death by two brothers-Longen and Harry; and two sisters-Sally and Alexandra.A Celebration of Life Service will be on Friday, Oct. 22, 11:00am at the Sommerfeld Chapel in New Buffalo, MI, with Father Bill Jacobs officiating. Frances will be interred next to her husband at Ft. Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI. A time of visitation will precede the service from 10:00-11:00am on Friday, at the funeral home.
