Edward Lewis Vanata

Edward Lewis Vanata, 82, of New Buffalo, died at St. Anthony Memorial Health Center in Michigan City on Sunday, November 7, 2010. Arrangements have been entrusted with Sommerfeld Chapel of New Buffalo.Edward was born on October 10, 1928 in South Bend, IN to George and Annabelle (Clawson) Vanata. He served his country while a Sergeant in the Army, serving during the Korean War. On August 22, 1953 in South Bend he married Joanne Troeger. She preceded him in death on July 15, 2000. Edward was an insurance agent having worked with various John Hancock agencies throughout the Michiana area. He was an avid Notre Dame and Chicago White Sox fan. Edward was an accomplished fast pitch softball pitcher in the South Bend/Mishawaka area and had also coached little league baseball. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 10, 11:00AM, at Sommerfeld Chapel of New Buffalo. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, New Buffalo. Visitation is on Tuesday, Nov. 9, from 4:00-8:00 PM, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
