John Richard Wabshall, 88, of Michigan City, IN, formerly of New Buffalo, died at LaPorte Hospital on Thursday, November 25, 2010. Arrangements have been entrusted with Sommerfeld Chapel of New Buffalo, MI.John was born in Michigan City, IN on June 5, 1922 to Ernest and Anna (Anderson) Wabshall. He served his country while in the U.S. 101st Airborne during WWII. On August 31, 1946 in Michigan City, IN he married Anne Pavur. John was a member of the American Legion Post of Michigan City, IN, and a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Michigan City, IN. He and his wife had been owner and operators of several Michigan City businesses-The Little Store, Canada Café, Trap Door and Star Dust Lounge. After his retirement, John worked for the Michigan City Sanitation Dept. (1982-1992). John enjoyed and loved being with his family. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten.John is survived by his two children, son-John (Linda) Wabshall of Tecumseh, MI, and daughter-Kim Wabshall of New Buffalo, MI; three grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents-Ernest and Anna, his wife-Anne, a sister-Frances Marks, and a brother-Ernest. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, Nov. 29, 11:00AM at the Sommerfeld Chapel, 15 N. Barton St., New Buffalo, MI, with Pastor John Peterson officiating.
