Herbert Donald Ferguson

Herbert Donald Ferguson, 93, of New Buffalo, MI, died on Sunday, January 9, 2011 at Clearbridge Cottege of Michigan City, IN. Arrangements have been entrusted with Sommerfeld Chapel of New Buffalo, MI.Herbert was born on June 5, 1917 in Willow Hill, IL to Roy and Lela (Sempsrott) Ferguson. Herbert served his country during WWII while in the US Army. He married Landa Marcacci in October of 1938 in Chicago Heights, IL. Herbert owned and operated Ferguson Landscapes in New Buffalo for many years. He was a member of the New Buffalo American Legion Post #169, a member of St. John United Church of Christ in New Buffalo, and a former New Buffalo Township Volunteer Fireman and Fire Chief. Herbert loved to work in the outdoors, and also loved playing his guitar. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten by all those that loved him.Herbert is survived by his two sons, Steven (Cookie) Ferguson of LaPorte, IN and Ronald Ferguson of New Buffalo, MI; his granddaughter, Kristen (Joseph) Ransom; and great granddaughter, Allison Ransom. He is preceded in death by his parents-Roy and Lela, his wife-Landa, and three sisters-Geraldine, Bernadine and Lenore. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, January 12, 11:00 am at the Sommerfeld Chapel, 15 N. Barton St., New Buffalo, MI, with Pastor John Peterson officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, New Buffalo. Visitation is on Tuesday from 6:00-8:00 pm at the funeral home.
