Regina Vaitkus, 78, of New Buffalo, MI died on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Michigan City, IN. Arrangements have been entrusted with Sommerfeld Chapel of New Buffalo, MI.Regina was born on September 4, 1932 in Klaipeda, Lithuania to Ignatius and Elizabeth (Wohlschlaeger) Apirubis. She came Chicago, IL in 1953. The family had a summer home in Union Pier since the late 1950's, and made New Buffalo their permanent home in 1988. On May 30, 1954 she married Vincas Vaitkus in Chicago, IL. Regina was a lab receptionist at a Chicago area hospital. She was a Lithuanian Girl Scout Leader, and a member of the Lithuanian Opera of Chicago for 27 years. Regina loved handcrafts, reading, and nature-especially birds.Regina is survived by her children, Vytautas Vaitkus of New Buffalo, MI, Arvydas (Elizabeth) Vaitkus of Munster, IN, and Milda (Michael) Vaitkus of Lincoln, NE; four grandchildren, Steven, Nicholas, Margaret and Kestutis; and a sister, Inge Ostermair of Germany. She is preceded in death by her parents-Ignatius and Elizabeth, and her husband-Vincas (2006). A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, December 2, 11:00 PM (EST) at the Sommerfeld Chapel, 15 N. Barton St., New Buffalo, MI, with Father Craig Lusk officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, New Buffalo. Visitation is on Wednesday, December 1, from 3:00-8:00 PM (EST) with a Prayer Service at 7:30 PM (EST) at the funeral home.
