Dean Burl Thompson

Dean Burl Thompson, 71, of New Buffalo, died on Monday, January 10, 2011 at his home. Arrangements have been entrusted with Sommerfeld Chapel of New Buffalo. Dean was born in Coloma, MI on April 9, 1939 to Hubert and Erna (Scheffler) Thompson. Dean served his country while in the US Marine Corps. On April 9, 1961 in Coloma, MI, he married Jeanette Marie Watson. Dean worked as a packaging designer. He was involved with local boy scouts from 1971-1985. Dean was also a former member of the New Buffalo Planning Commission. He also volunteered his help at the New Buffalo Elementary School during his wife Jeanette's teaching career. Dean will be greatly missed but never forgotten.He is survived by his wife, Jeanette; his two sons, Eric (Janet) Thompson of Niles, MI and Brian (Missy) Thompson of New Buffalo, MI; six grandchildren, Robert, Christian, Garrick, Rodger, Morgan and Hunter; and many adopted grand and great grandchildren. Dean is preceded in death by his parents-Hubert and Erna, and a sister-Vickie.A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2:00pm at the Sommerfeld Chapel of New Buffalo. Visitation with the family precedes the service from 1:00-2:00pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or to Fighting Crime Fighting Cancer @ United Federal Credit Union in St. Joseph, MI.
