Eugene L. Lonske

Eugene L. Lonske, 79, of New Buffalo, passed away at his residence on Thursday, February 3, 2011. Arrangements have been entrusted with Sommerfeld Chapel of New Buffalo.Gene was born October 15, 1931 in Michigan City, IN to Stanley and Frances (Weiner) Lonske. He was a 1950 graduate of New Buffalo High School. Gene served his country during the Korean War while in the U.S. Navy. On September 17, 1960 in New Buffalo at St. Mary of the Lake Church he married Jean Nancy Duffy. Gene was a diesel mechanic first at Northern Indiana Steel and then at AMI Metals both of Michigan City, IN. He retired from the Indiana State Prison as a correctional officer. Gene will be greatly missed but never forgotten by all those that loved him.He is survived by his wife of over 50 years Jean Nancy; his children Charles, Ronald and James all of New Buffalo; five grandchildren; a brother Marvin (Marilyn) Lonske of Maryville, TN; and sisters Lorraine Rowe of Cadiz, KY and Marlene (Chester) Putzke of Jenison, MI. Gene is preceded in death by his parents, twin brothers, and two grandchildren. Gene was a member of the New Buffalo American Legion Post #169, the VFW, and the Korean Club. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association. Per Gene's wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at a later date.
