Richard's Obituary

Richard L. Petersen, 82, of Michigan City, IN, formerly of New Buffalo, MI, died at his home Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011. Arrangements have been entrusted with Sommerfeld Chapel of New Buffalo, MI.Richard was born Sept. 10, 1928 in Chicago, IL to Louis and Gudrun (Jensen) Petersen. He served his country during the Korean War while in the U.S. Army. Richard worked in construction as an iron worker and a member of the Architectural & Ornamental Iron Workers Union Local #63 AFL-CIO. He was a member of the New Buffalo American Legion Post #169, and in his spare time enjoyed fishing.Richard is survived by his four sons – Richard (Marju) of New Buffalo, Alan of Melrose Park, IL, Gary of Honolulu, HI and James (Darlene) of Lancaster, PA; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents-Louis and Gudrun, and a sister-Marjorie Hiscock. Military Rites celebrating his life service will be held 2:00 P.M. Monday at Sommerfeld Chapel, 15 N. Barton St., New Buffalo, performed by New Buffalo American Legion Post #169. Cremation will follow the service with burial at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan.
