Mary Patricia Behrens

Mary P. Behrens, 88, of New Buffalo, MI died at Country Manor in Bridgman, MI on Saturday, May 14, 2011. Arrangements have been entrusted with Sommerfeld Chapel in New Buffalo.Mary was born on November 19, 1922 in Des Moines, IA. She lived in Chicago prior to her moving to New Buffalo in the early 1950's. Mary received her Bachelor's degree in music from St. Mary of the Woods in South Bend, IN. She taught at Notre Dame school in Michigan City; and retired from the U.S. Post Office in Three Oaks as a mail carrier. She was also a member of the Sweet Adeline's, and an avid book reader. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Buffalo Public Library.Mary is survived by her four children, Edward ‘Clay' (Sandy) Behrens of Montvale, VA, Kevin Behrens of Denman Island, British Columbia, Canada, Thomas (Nora) Behrens of Whiting, IN and Katherine (James) Vojtko of Monongahela, PA; five grandchildren and one great grandchild. She is preceded in death by a brother-Thomas V. Brennan.A family gathering and a time of visitation will be on Tuesday, May 17, from 3:00-7:00pm at the Sommerfeld Chapel in New Buffalo, MI.
