David Allen Kurz

David Allen Kurz, 70, of New Buffalo, died at his home on Tuesday, 10:00PM, July 12, 2011. Arrangements have been entrusted with Sommerfeld Chapel of New Buffalo.David was born on August 1, 1940 in Peru, IN to Lewis and Henrietta (Smith) Kurz. He served his country while in the U.S. Navy as a radio operator. On Nov. 10, 1962 he married Nancy Lee Bentley in Michigan City, IN. David retired as a instrument repairman in 2003 after 37 years at Midwest Steel, Portage, IN. He was a recreational pilot and loved to fly his Cessna 172. David was a member of the LaPorte Aero Club, and a member of the LaPorte Amateur Radio Club. He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Nancy; his daughter, Sandra (James) Kriner of Three Oaks; Son-In-Law, Robert Reitz of New Buffalo; three grandchildren, Dustin, Kellie and Katie; four great grandchildren, Hailey, Amber, Cole and Chase; and a brother, Dennis (Gail) Kurz of Florida. Preceding David in death are his parents-Lewis and Henrietta, and a daughter-Melissa Reitz.A Celebration of Life Service will take place on Tuesday, July 19, 11:00 AM, at the Sommerfeld Chapel in New Buffalo with Rev. Brad Bartelmay officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, New Buffalo. Visitation is on Monday, July 18, from 5:00-8:00 PM at the funeral home.
