Fern Holmes

Fern Emily (Hawley) Holmes, 92, of New Buffalo, MI, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 20, 2011 at her home. Arrangements have been entrusted with Sommerfeld Chapel of New Buffalo.Fern was born on Aug. 6, 1919 in Dolton, IL, daughter of Laurence and Minnie (Gess) Fike. She was married on Nov. 22, 1936 in Chicago to Ronald K. Hawley Sr., who preceded her in death on March 13, 1972. She married David L. Holmes, who survives, July 28, 1978 in Dolton, IL and they resided in New Buffalo, MI.Also surviving are two daughters, Jeanne (Larry) Quinlivan of Bellingham, WA and Gail (Ken) Banas of Sparta, NJ; one son, Ron Hawley Jr. of New Buffalo, MI; and step-children, two daughters, Cindy Haughey and Sheila Holmes of Bridgman, MI, and a son, Jeff (Diane) Holmes of Colorado Springs, CO; eight-grandchildren, Christopher, Kelly, Jeffrey, Kimberly, Evan, Matthew, Nicholas and Cameron and ten great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Crystal Roper and brother Arthur Fike.The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Tues., Nov. 22, 2011 at Sommerfeld Chapel, 15 N. Barton St., New Buffalo, MI, with a 10am Celebration of Life Service on Weds., Nov. 23, at St. John United Church of Christ 200 W. Buffalo St., New Buffalo, MI. Burial will follow at Cedar Park Cemetery, Calumet Park, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice At Home.
