Richard (Dick) Adamec, 61, lost his battle with cancer and died at home on Monday, March 5, 2012, with his wife, Jan, at his side.Dick will be remembered as a caring friend, special brother, devoted son and above all a loving husband and father. His passion for sports included coaching baseball, bowling, golfing, and being an avid fan of the Tampa Bay Rays and Chicago Bears. He was an avid reader and lover of all types of music. Together, he and Jan enjoyed their leisure time spent on the beaches of Michigan and Florida, and in the mountains of Vermont and New Hampshire.Dick was born on August 6, 1950 to Arthur and Anne (Rehak) Adamec, and spent his entire life in the New Buffalo area. He graduated from New Buffalo High School in 1968, where he was a talented pitcher for the Bison, which enabled him to be a walk on for the Central Michigan University Chippewas. He was the sole proprietor of Adamec Decorating. He was well respected in his field because of his meticulous attention to detail, and dedication to his clients. Many of his clients became lifelong friends.Dick is survived by his wife Jan of 32 years; his son Brian, a Specialist in the U.S. Army Infantry; his mother Anne; brother Art (Cyndi); nephews Jeff and Justin and favorite niece Tonya Eastman as well as many other family members. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Adamec, Sr.A service celebrating Dick’s life will be held June 13 at 11:00AM at Sommerfeld Chapel, 15 N. Barton St., New Buffalo, MI. Friends unable to attend the service may visit with family members Tuesday evening from 5:00-8:00PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice at Home (4017 Chamberlain Rd., Buchanan, MI 49107).
