Frederick Martensen

Frederick ‘Fritz’ Martensen, 79, of New Buffalo, died at home on Wednesday, August 29, 2012. Arrangements have been entrusted with Sommerfeld Chapel of New Buffalo.Fritz was born Sept. 20, 1932 in Tracy, IN to Norman and Inez (Talmadge) Martensen. He was a graduate of Union Township High School in 1950. Fritz was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked for many years at American National Can, LaPorte, IN; American Home Foods of Union Mills; and Smith Chevrolet of LaPorte, IN. Fritz is survived by his daughter, Kelly (Scott) Garrett of Elkhart, IN; sister, Diane Kopanski of Michigan City; nieces, Debbie Tilden and Pam Bowen; nephews, Chris and Don Kopanski; and his friend and partner of 20 years Barbara Gorbonosenko.Visitation is on Wednesday, Sept. 5, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Sommerfeld Chapel, 15 N. Barton St., New Buffalo, MI. A Celebration of Life Service will conclude the visitation at 7:00 PM at the funeral home, with Pastor Jeff Dryden officiating.
