Bernard C. McGill, 91, of New Buffalo, died at his home surrounded by his loving family, Wednesday morning Dec. 12, 2012. Arrangements have been entrusted with Sommerfeld Chapel of New Buffalo.Bernard was born August 12, 1921 in Hudson, MI to Albert and Mabel (Rooney) McGill. On Dec. 20, 1952 in Angola, IN he married Mary Lou Bowman. They moved to New Buffalo in 1969. Bernard served his country while in the U.S. Army, WWII. He was a 60+ year member of the New Buffalo American Legion Post #169, a life member of the VFW in Rolling Prairie, IN, and a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps.Bernard retired as a truck driver in 1982.He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Mary; his children, Linda McGill Staples of New Buffalo, James McGill of North Carolina, Dennis McGill of Kentucky, Philip Goodrich of Colorado and Joseph McGill of New Buffalo; five grandchildren, Kimberly (Joe) Roney, Chad Kennedy, Jason (Leah) Goodrich, Matt (Ann) Goodrich and Talia (Chris) Edwards; four great grandchildren, Nate and Zoe Goodrich, Joseph and Abigail Edwards. Bernard is preceded in death by his parents-Albert and Mabel, four brothers and three sisters.A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sat., Dec. 15, 11:00 AM, at Sommerfeld Chapel in New Buffalo, with Father Don Suberlak officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in New Buffalo. Visitation is on Friday at the funeral home from 4:00-8:00 PM. There will be a Prayer Service at 6:30 PM, and the American Legion will honor Bernard at 6:45 PM Friday evening. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s choice.
