Edward J. Hatton, Sr., 76, of New Buffalo, passed away at his home on Tues., Dec. 4, 2012. Arrangements have been entrusted with Sommerfeld Chapel of New Buffalo.Ed was born on Jan., 24, 1936 in Chicago, IL to William and Agnes (Brombora) Hatton. The Hatton’s moved to New Buffalo in December of 1936, and Ed has lived here since. Ed graduated from New Buffalo High School in 1954, and in March of 1955 entered into the U.S. Air Force where he served until October 1958. He worked at Weil-McLain in Michigan City for 29 years, retiring in 2000. Ed was an avid Scouter from 1984 till today, where he held various positions locally and at the district level. He ran a local paper drive for 23 years to support scout troops and the New Buffalo Public Library. Ed also enjoyed collecting various collectible items. On June 26, 1971 in Wayne, MI he married Roberta Jolly.Ed is survived by his wife Roberta; a son Edward Hatton, Jr. of Niles, MI; a sister Ruth Hatton of Wooster, OH; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents-William and Agnes, and a brother-Walter. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sat., Dec. 8, 12 noon, at Sommerfeld Chapel in New Buffalo, with Father Craig Lusk officiating.Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in New Buffalo. Visitation in on Friday at Sommerfeld Chapel from 4:00-8:00 PM, and also on Sat. one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the LaSalle Council BSA, South Bend, IN.
