Thomas A. Becktell, 71, formerly of New Buffalo, now of Buchanan, passed away with his family at his side at Lakeland RMC in St. Joseph on Wednesday, October 31, 2012. Arrangements have been entrusted with Sommerfeld Chapel of New Buffalo, MI.Tom was born February 5, 1941 in New Buffalo to Ernest and Mildred (Hahn) Becktell. On April 19, 1958 in Bridgman, MI he married Nancy Loretta Black; she preceded him in death on March 16, 1995. Tom was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved the Chicago Cubs.Tom is survived by his children, Kim (Forrest) Gardiner, Brian (Leslie Terry) Becktell and Laura (Robert) Upton all of Buchanan, MI; 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; and a brother, Robert (Norma) Cook of New Buffalo. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, sons-Thomas A, Jr., Thomas Theodore and Matthew, daughter-Diane Lawrence, and brothers-Dick Becktell and Don Cook.A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, Nov. 5, 2:00 PM, at Sommerfeld Chapel in New Buffalo. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, New Buffalo. Visitation is also on Monday from 12 noon til time of service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice.
