Joan M. Chesterton

Joan M. Chesterton, 84, of Michigan City, IN died in her home on Sat., January 26, 2013. Arrangements have been made with Sommerfeld Chapel of New Buffalo, MI.Ms. Chesterton was born on August 27, 1928 in Hutchinson, MN to Wilfred and Gladys (Keefe) Houle, both of whom preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her daughter, Mary Eileen Chesterton, her brother Wilfred Houle, her sisters Mary Duffy, Nanette Peltier, and Jeanne Driscoll, her son-in-law Dennis Brennen, and her grandparents Joseph and Lena (Hammer) Keefe.Surviving are her daughters, Constance Brennen of Lakeside, MI and Julia (Loren Santow) Chesterton of Chicago, IL; three grandchildren, Eli Santow of Chicago, IL, Elisabeth Brennen of Lakeside, MI and Daisy Santow of Chicago, IL; brother Thomas (Georgia) Houle of Mequon, WI; sisters, Sheila (Leonard) Milazzo of Chagrin Falls, OH and Andrea (Michael) Nolan of Arlington, TX; and many nieces and nephews.Ms. Chesterton served as Professor Emerita, Purdue University School of Engineering and Technology; former Executive Director of Marketing, Compton’s division, Encyclopedia Britannica; and Executive Director of Human Resources, Zurich Insurance.A Memorial Service will take place on Sat., Feb. 16, from 1:00-4:00 P.M.(EST) at the Marina Grand Resort in New Buffalo. Private services will be held for family members at Lakeside Cemetery, Lakeside, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the New Buffalo Public Library.
