Gladys Redamak Shimkus

Gladys Redamak Shimkus, 95, of New Buffalo, passed away on Wednesday, May 15, at St. Anthony’s Hospice in Michigan City, IN. Arrangements have been entrusted with Sommerfeld Chapel of New Buffalo, MI.Gladys was born on Oct. 29, 1917 in Michigan City, IN to Albert and Adelia (Lueth) Berg. She married George Redamak on Oct. 30, 1939; he passed away on Nov. 27, 1969. Together they owned Redamak’s Tavern from 1947-1975. Gladys married Peter Shimkus on Dec. 9, 1978; he preceded her in death on Feb. 20, 2004. Gladys was a member of St. Luke’s United Lutheran Church in Michigan City; a life member of Memorial Hospital Auxiliary; member of the Moose Auxiliary; member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the F.O.E.; and a member of the Michigan City Senior Citizens.Gladys is survived by her Daughter-In-Law Mary Redamak of New Buffalo; three grandchildren Julie (Jamie) Flick of New Buffalo, Sara (Beau) Mead of Greensboro, NC and Amanda (Adam) DesErmia of Olmsted Falls, OH,; great grandchildren Michael and Andrew Flick, Elizabeth, Benjamin and Seth DesErmia, and Steven Mead; step-son Peter Shimkus, Jr.; also many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband’s George Redamak and Peter Shimkus, her son Terry Redamak, and a sister Thelma Dittmer.A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, May 22 10:30 A.M. (CST) at St. Luke’s United Lutheran Church in Michigan City, IN. Cremation will follow services and burial will take place at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery in Michigan City. Visitation is on Tuesday from 5:00-7:30 P.M. (EST) at Sommerfeld Chapel in New Buffalo. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke’s United Lutheran Church.
