Phyllis Melichar, 77, of New Buffalo passed away quietly at home surrounded by her family on Monday, May 27, 2013. Arrangements have been entrusted with Sommerfeld Chapel, 15 N. Barton St., New Buffalo, MI.Phyllis was born on Sept. 26, 1935 in Chicago, IL to Leo and Florence (Wysinski) Dorociak. She received her BSN from Loyola University; served in the IL Air National Guard from 1957-1965 as a Flight Nurse and Captain; on June 6, 1964 in Glen Ellyn, IL she married Ernest Melichar; she was a nurse surveyor for the Illinois Dept. of Public Health Long term Health Care; a member of the Executive Board of Illinois Nurses Union; and a past officer of the Riverside Junior Women’s Club; but most of all she was a loving wife, beloved mother and grandmother.Phyllis is survived by her husband Ernest of New Buffalo; her children Joseph of New Buffalo, Frances of Union Mills, IN and Ann of Chicago;and grandchildren James and David. She is preceded in death by her parents Leo and Florence, a sister Leanne Meyer, and a granddaughter Katheryn.A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, May 31, 7:00 P.M. at Sommerfeld Chapel in New Buffalo. Visitation will precede the service from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Burial will take place at a later date in the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
