Emil Van Hazebroeck

Emil ‘Mike’ Van Hazebroeck, 84, formerly of New Buffalo now of Algoma, WI, died in Green Bay on Thurs., Aug. 22, 2013. Arrangements have been entrusted with Sommerfeld Chapel of New Buffalo, MI. Mike was born Nov. 17, 1928 in Chicago, IL to Emil and Cornelia (Van Geffen) Van Hazebroeck. He attended flight school while serving his country in the U.S. Navy. Mike’s residency in New Buffalo started in the mid 1960’s until 2006 when he relocated to Algoma, WI. His work history included working in the steel mills of Gary, IN for 18 years; he was owner and operator of Mike’s Bar in Union Pier from 1979-1989; and he also worked for Oselka Marina in marine sales. Mike is a member of the New Buffalo American Legion Post #169, and also a member of the Moose Lodge in Michigan City, IN. Mike’s passion was boating and Lake Michigan. Mike is survived by his sweetheart of 34 years Bernie Hickman; a brother-Garritt Van Brock; many nephews and nieces; and special family Mark and Lisa Hickman. He is preceded in death by his parents-Emil and Cornelia, and three brothers. Private family services were held with burial taking place at Pine Grove Cemetery in New Buffalo.
