Our loving mother Rose Shubert, 97, joined her Savior on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013. Mom passed away at her home in New Buffalo, which she loved and lived in for 69 years. Her love and compassion was an example to us all, and she will be dearly missed. Arrangements have been entrusted with Sommerfeld Chapel of New Buffalo.
Rose was born on June 27, 1916 in Chicago, IL to John and Ann Gasior. On Nov. 20, 1937 in Chicago she married Joseph Shubert; he preceded her in death in 1965. Rose served her parish, St. Mary of the Lake, through her long standing membership in the Altar and Rosary Society as well as by volunteering at St. Mary of the Lake School.
Rose is survived by five children, Maryann (William) Mann of New Buffalo, Therese (John) Reed of Battle Creek, Dennis (Carol) Shubert of New Buffalo, Michael (Deborah Brady) Shubert of Eugene, OR and Phillip (Colleen) Shubert of Columbus, OH; 13 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and her loving caretakers Teresa Gasiorowska and Bob Sajdak. She is preceded in death by her parents-John and Anna, her husband-Joseph, a son-Bernard, 2 brothers, 3 sisters, son-in-law-Charles Waaso and a daughter-in-law Geraldine Shubert.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Mary of the Lake Church in New Buffalo with Father Craig Lusk officiating on Monday, November 25, 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in New Buffalo. Visitation is on Sunday, Nov. 24 from 3:00-6:00 PM at Sommerfeld Chapel, 15 N. Barton St., New Buffalo, MI. A Rosary will be recited at 6:00PM following the visiting hours. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary of the Lake School.
